Travel Designer St Helena

St Helena Travel Designer

Established by born and bred St Helenian Matt Joshua, Senior Travel Designer and Marketing Lead at Travel Designer. Matt acted as Head of Tourism for the St Helena Government from 2021-2025 and was the opening General Manager for the Mantis St Helena Hotel from 2016-2019.

During these years, Matt realised the critical need for a well-connected DMC, one that completely understands the complexities, quirks and challenges of travelling and doing business in one of the most remote islands on the planet. In September 2025, Travel Designer St Helena DMC – a subsidiary of Travel Designer Africa – was registered on St Helena to meet this demand.

Travel Designer St Helena DMC has group departures scheduled for 2026 and 2027 (see sample itineraries below), with more FIT and group travel planned for 2026 onwards. These programs offer a stand-alone St Helena experience, or can be combined with South or Southern Africa.

St. Helena Island, An Introduction

St Helena is one of the most remote inhabited islands on Earth, located 1,200 miles from Africa and 1,800 miles from South America. Its subtropical climate, mountainous terrain and varied microclimates create an astonishing diversity of landscapes all within a short drive. The British Overseas Territory spans just 47 square miles and is home to a population of just 4000, allowing visitors to explore the island’s natural and built attractions in a rare atmosphere of freedom and tranquillity.

With the opening of the island’s first and only airport in 2017, St Helena became accessible to the wider world, making it possible to visit this once largely undiscovered destination and connect with its tightly-knit, Saint (St Helenian) community comprised of a rich cultural tapestry shaped by influences from Europe, Africa, and Asia.
